      IN YOUR COMMUNITY, YOU CAN
           Protect forests, wetlands, and espe-
cially vernal ponds. Vernal ponds are
seasonal pools of water, usually with-
out fish, that enable amphibians to de-
           velop.
           Encourage use of organic gardening
and lawn care in the community.
           Report diseases or deformities found
in frogs to CT Department of En-
           ergy and Environmental Protection
           (DEEP) Wildlife Division.

So, take a visit to some nearby ponds with
your children or grandchildren to see if you
can locate and identify some frogs and toads.
You might see some egg masses or tadpoles
at the edge of the water, or you may hear the
croaks and trills of the frogs. A sudden splash
can startle you just as your appearance star-
tled the frog. If you are very quiet, you might
be lucky enough to see a frog catch some-
      thing for his meal!
