Along with all the attractions, the Brocksieper sisters also named ev-
erything in the Garden after someone they knew. Gardens, museums,
benches, and other buildings were named after their family and friends.
Adele, who many knew as “Daly”, was a handywoman. She built many of
the children’s attractions, taxidermied the animals, and built the wooden
bridges in the Gardens as well. She was rumored to be the clown as well.
Many schools in North Haven hosted “Last Day of School” celebrations
here yearly. Other events included a May Festival, Morning Glory Break-
fast, Golden Rod Picnic, and a Corn Roast Party. From 1904 until 1916,
The Good Time Gardens hosted many families and friends. But as the
beginning of the era of World War One loomed around the corner, the
end of private family parks and much of the era of leisure were ending.
The Brocksieper sisters closed The Good Time Gardens in 1916, but the
memories of the visitors lasted for lifetimes. The Brocksieper family creat-
ed a legacy in North Haven, always giving as much as they could to their
community, and never asking for anything in return.
