Resident Spotlight
Peg Arrato, resident since Janu-
ary 2020, and one of our Resident
Ambassadors (a resident that
helps welcome new residents
into the community, shows them
the lay of the land, helps discover
interests and introduces to other
residents with similar interests,
etc.)
Peg is a lovely, thoughtful and
articulate woman, patient, down-
to-earth, grounded and very
open-minded for her generation.
She is blessed with many good
friends and a family that adores
her.
Background info – born and raised where? Career?
• Born and raised in New Haven until she married
• Moved to Wallingford just after her 2nd daughter was
born (has 3 children – Diane, Mary Lou & Anthony)
• Lived in Wallingford for 62 years until transitioning into
The Landing of North Haven
• Worked in a bakery as a teenager (from age 15 – 20)
during WWII since there were no men to work; loved
the job and made $0.40/hour; this is where Peg
learned the art of cake decorating – she even decorat-
ed her own wedding cake!
What’s something that most people don’t know about
you?
• I watched the movie "Kings Row" starring Ronald Rea-
gan 15 times or more during my lifetime, mostly as a
teen-ager. I cried when his legs were cut off by the
mean old doctor!
School girl crush?
• Ronald Regan – bought a notebook from the drugstore
and would cut out every picture and article she could
find about him and paste it into the notebook
Your favorite thing about living at The Landing?
• The staff – they are polite, helpful and accommodating
in every way
• Knowing that I am in a safe environment, especially in
light of all that is going on in the world
• Making new friends and the security of commonality
– knowing we are all going through the same life tran-
sition together
We all leave a mark on the world, some small, some big-
ger than others depending on our status – how do you
want people to remember you, your legacy so to speak?
• As a kind, friendly and helpful person and as someone
that is artistic
If you could pick one word or a short phrase that has
guided you and provided comfort to you throughout
your life, what would it be?
• “This too shall pass”
What is the most scandalous thing about Peg Arrato?
• Not charging enough money for the wedding cakes
that I decorated over the years and feeling guilty think-
ing I was charging too much!
Biggest Regret?
• Not going to college – not something that woman of
her generation did often
