Dear Readers,
No one could have predicted the situation we find ourselves in during these uncertain times.
We hear daily of triumph and defeat, heroes and victims. As a society we find ourselves
separated from our family, our friends, our neighbors, and our community. It’s not just here
in Connecticut, or the United States, but the entire world; the world under assault by an
organism too small to see.
It is during these dark times that positive, heartfelt, stories of kindness, compassion, and
courage ring clear; stories of people helping each other, companies donating money and
needed supplies, even handing over patents so others can make lifesaving equipment.
Never has the medical community been so revered for their tireless, courageous effort to
save every life they can and to assist those who die alone, away from their loved ones. We Roger Dietz
see people with means reaching out to help those in need, musicians taking to the rooftops Publisher
to spread joy, writers and journalist bringing messages of hope and victory. We’re touched
by people putting teddy bears in their windows, hearts on their lawns, even decorating their house with Christmas
lights and windows with candles. The message we send each other is of hope, strength and love.
While the scientific community races to find a cure, the people of the world stay home. As we are reminded of our
fragility, we demonstrate strength. The strength to do what has to be done to eradicate a pandemic, not in one
community; but in all communities. And while at home, in quarantine, we learn something about ourselves, about
our family, about what’s important and perhaps what’s not so important. Our world has slowed down and with it our
pace of life. We will get through this pandemic, and on the other side of this worldwide event, I believe humanity
will be stronger, kinder, smarter, and more compassionate. The people of the world will be a bit more connected;
not with technology, but with experience, knowledge and fortitude; and it’s likely that through this hardship and
despite our losses, the world will be a better place.
