Congrats to the North Haven Education Foundation, Inc. (NHEF)
which is kicking off its twentieth year! The NHEF provides fund-
ing to support and enhance educational initiatives in the North
Haven schools and community.
According to Bernard Pellegrino, Chair of the NHEF, the organiza-
tion has been able to donate approximately a million dollars to
North Haven schools through its Creativity Grants Program. The
grant funds are awarded to encourage the innovation and estab-
lishment of educational projects that enrich the lives of students in
the district. Past grants include:
• Out of the box woodworking projects at the Middle School
• “Ask a farmer” egg-hatching projects at the four elementary schools
• STEM lab improvements at Ridge Road Elementary
• Stand Up and Speak Out anti-bullying program at the Middle School
• Cricut machine for the Art Club at the high school
Recurring grants funded by generous long-time donors help
support the Future Problem Solvers program and the High
School Band and Choir. “These grants bridge the gap between
what the schools need and what is available from limited
budgets…we encourage creativity,” said Vice Chair Kathy Rock-
lin. “We help bring the faculty, students, and town together by
reaching out to parents, members of the community, and local
businesses to assist in our fundraising efforts,” she continued.
The NHEF hosts events such as Trivia Night, Comedy Night, the
Adult Spelling Bee, and Lights on the Green.
