A Message From
he beginning of March marked the beginning of a different time. A time of
Tconcern, a time of uncertainly and a time to make significant adjustments
to our daily lives. This pandemic also has called for a time for action by local
governments to help our citizens in our respective communities.
Here in North Haven, we have been through a great deal together since I first took
office in December of 2009. We have witnessed Hurricane Irene, Storm Sandy,
Michael J. Freda numerous power outages and destructive tornados ripping through our wonderful
First Selectman town causing significant damage. This latest challenge, known as Covid-19, has
presented a different set of difficulties in terms of altering our daily lives, has
created sustained havoc on the smashed landscape of our business community, and has greatly altered the lives
of our children and their activities.
We are now about 10 weeks into this pandemic and I wanted you to know that this government will continue to
support you and will always be there for you. This government will remain focused, energized and disciplined
to continue to help and assist our citizens. As we walk this tightrope together with uncertainty on one side, and
hope and optimism on the other side, I would like each of you to know that we will get through this together and
we will prevail.
This virus, despite it’s effect on our society, can be beaten. This is a virus that needs people to survive. Without
people, it slowly withers away. We must continue to practice and adhere to the disciplines of our adjusted daily
lives by continuing to practice those social disciplines and social distancing. We must continue to wash hands
in a compulsive fashion and we must continue to practice wearing masks in stores and practicing all of the
cleanliness and hygiene guidelines that have been reported by multiple sources.
As we look back over the past 10 weeks, I realize that we have taken an agonizing route together through a maze
of ferocious obstacles.
As we look forward, if we continue to work together to practice those social disciplines, I see a joyous daybreak
of bright sunshine that will dissipate the clouds of this pandemic.
In the end, we will have learned a great deal about how to defeat such a threat on our society. We will also come
away with a greater appreciation for each other, and we will come to understand that when a community and a
society can come together, the force of our collective collaboration will always carry us to a successful outcome.
I care deeply about each and every one of you.
Sincerely,
Michael Freda
